(Undated-jm) – Illinois elected officials are reacting to former President Donald Trump's conviction. Trump was convicted Thursday of falsifying business records to influence the 2016 presidential campaign. A New York jury found Trump guilty of 34 counts related to a $130,000 payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Governor J.B. Pritzker issued a statement, saying justice has been served and after facing a jury of his peers, Donald Trump is “exposed as the liar and fraud that he is.” Pritzker also called Trump a threat to this country. Illinois Congresswoman Mary Miller called the trial a “complete sham” and claims the anti-Trump witnesses admitted to lying under oath.Former Democratic Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, who was found guilty of public corruption in 2008 and impeached and removed from office in 2009, said he loves Trump today more than ever and said the prosecutors should be jailed calling it a political fix and disgraceful.
(Lake Iroquois-jm) – A boil order is in effect for an Iroquois County subdivision near Loda. The Iroquois County Emergency Management Agency said the order was issued for the entire Lake Iroquois subdivision. The order will remain in effect until further notice.

(Springfield-jm) – Carbon capture and sequestration projects have been hot button issues in Central Illinois for years, and Saturday afternoon lawmakers passed legislation in the House that deals with the issue. Some of the components of Senate Bill 1289 include companies needing to prove their project will catch the carbon and not store it underground. It also creates more stringent rules for carbon dioxide pipeline projects, versus other carbon sequestration projects. (Champaign-jm) – The Champaign Police Department has shared more information on an armed robbery that caused Illini Alerts early Thursday morning.
Champaign Police said officers were called to the scene on Clark Street near Third Street around 1:00 a.m. of a food delivery driver who was approached by three subjects, one of which was armed. The three people then took the driver’s phone, wallet and food and ran from the scene. Champaign Police have not located the subjects. They were able to recover the driver’s phone, which has been processed for evidence.

Recognizing this need, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is once again hosting the Summer Food Service Program, an initiative sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education. (Springfield-jm) – New legislation that would designate the soybean as the official state bean of Illinois, has passed through the Senate. According to the Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois is the No. 1 soybean-producing state in the country, with 15% of all U.S. soybeans being produced in Illinois.
(Undated-jm) – Students from Clinton High School and Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School will soon face off against each other and three other Illinois teams in the State 4-H Food Challenge. Last month, the two teams came out on top in the Regional 4-H Food Challenge. Now, they are advancing to the upcoming state competition in Decatur. It will take place on June 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the University of Illinois Extension Macon County Office. Paxton-Buckley-Loda’s team includes Lily Anderson, HaleyJo O’Neill, and Theresa Domingo. The winning team will head to Texas for the National 4-H Food Challenge.

(Champaign County-jm) – Traffic behavior at an intersection in rural Champaign County is going to be changing starting next week, IDOT and the Champaign County Highway Department announced. June 3, stop signs are going to be installed at the intersection of County Road 2100 N (also known as Royal Road) and County Road 2200 E (also known as St. Joe Road), north of St. Joseph. Currently, traffic does not have to stop on Royal Road at this intersection; now, all four directions of travel must stop there.

(Urbana-jm) – Construction of a new firehouse is underway in Urbana. The Urbana Fire Department posted on its Facebook page that work started to construct a fire station at Bradley and Goodwin Avenues. That work includes the demolition of existing structures at the site. The new station is being funded through $1.5 million from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity. The funds will also help replace an aging fire station on Philo Road.

The Paxton Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2024 Golf Outing is set for Friday, June 14th at Lakeview Country Club will lunch at 11 and tee off at noon. It’s $100 per person, $200 for team of 2 or $350 for team of 4. Registration is due by May 31st.
The 2024 Ford County Fair will run June 23-29 at the fairgrounds in Melvin.
Rankin will hold their 4th of July celebration on Friday, June 28th and Saturday, June 29th. Friday nights its the tractor pulls starting at 6pm. Saturday its a full day with the 5k at 8 am, church service at 10, Bingo and kids games start at 11:30, car show from 1-4, cake walk at 1:30, kids water ball competition at 2:30, live music starting at 2:30 with fireworks wrapping up the celebration at dusk at Centennial Park.
Gifford will hold their annual celebration on Saturday, June 29th with the 5k run/walk at 7, cars and coffee at 8, parade at 10, activities and food trucks at Werner Roessler Park from 11-3, bags tournament downtown at 3 and fireworks at dusk.
