Sponsors believe the state should ensure healthcare regardless of decisions made by the federal government. The Illinois Department of Public Health currently has an advisory committee responsible for reviewing vaccines. However, this plan could expand its authority and allow the department to issue evidence-based recommendations on vaccines and treatments during disease outbreaks and public health emergencies. House and Senate Democrats said they want to protect public health and uphold science-based care as the Trump administration dismantles the country's healthcare system. The plan also states IDPH would follow vaccine guidance from the World Health Organization if the Food and Drug Administration does not approve the treatment. Republicans strongly oppose this idea, as they argue it is an example of "Trump derangement syndrome."

Governor JB Pritzker says he is committed to lowering home insurance rates for Illinoisans

(Springfield-jm) – Governor JB Pritzker says he is committed to lowering home insurance rates for Illinoisans. The Democrat is continuing a battle with State Farm after an insurance reform plan failed to pass out of the House last month. The plan would require insurance companies to give homeowners at least 60 days' notice before nonrenewal, changes in coverage, or premium increases of 10% or more. Insurers would also need to use credible Illinois-specific data to set rates. The Illinois Department of Insurance can review filings, issue orders and require rebates if the rates are found unfair. Pritzker told reporters in Chicago that Democrats may have to adjust parts of the reform plan to gain more support before the session resumes in January. Although he believes insurers need to justify what they are doing to homeowners.

(The Center Square) – Illinois lawmakers say they are not getting information from Governor  J.B. Pritzker or state agencies about the governor’s proposed spending cuts. A bill heading to Governor JB Pritzker's desk could protect immigrant families from escalating ICE enforcement

(Springfield-jm) – A bill heading to Governor JB Pritzker's desk could protect immigrant families from escalating ICE enforcement. The legislation would create safe zones and pathways for people to file lawsuits against law enforcement violating their constitutional rights. The Illinois Bivens Act would ensure that essential community spaces like hospitals, courthouses, universities and daycare centers remain safe for all residents, regardless of their immigration status. This measure also requires a 1,000-foot safety zone around courthouses, including sidewalks, parkways and nearby streets. The bill would allow people to bring civil actions against law enforcement who violate their constitutional rights while engaging in civil immigration enforcement. That includes civil damages for false imprisonment, $10,000 in statutory damages and potential contempt of court charges. Republicans said this is a step in the wrong direction.
