(Gordyville-dg)-Big news for Illini Basketball was heard last night at the Coaches vs Cancer event at Gordyville USA. Jake Davis, Tomislav Ivasic and Zvladimir Ivasic announced that they would be back for another year at Illinois. Each announcement received a standing ovation. Earlier in the day, via social media, David Mirkovic announced he too, would be returning for another year with the Fighting Illini.

(Champaign-jm) – Illinois football’s 2027 recruiting class is losing a member, according to multiple reports. Kamden Lopati, a four-star quarterback in the 2027 high school class, is backing out of his commitment to Illinois, 247 Sports and On3 Sports report. Lopati, a Salt Lake City, Utah native, is the No. 9 ranked quarterback in the country for the 2027 class by composite rankings. He committed to Illinois in July of 2025. Lopati holds offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Georgia, Duke and others.

(Champaign-jm) – One of the most impactful scorers on the Illinois women’s basketball team is returning for a second season in Champaign. Maddie Webber announced her return to the Illini on social media. The former Villanova transfer scored 10.8 points per game off the bench, scoring in double figures 19 times, including 26 points at Penn State and 22 at Michigan State. Webber is set to enter her senior season of college hoops.

(Champaign-jm) – Parkland College Men’s Basketball Coach John Bowler is leaving the program to become an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan. In his four seasons in Champaign, Bowler led the Cobras to two national championship game appearances, a runner up finish in 2025 and winning the national title this year. Bowler played four seasons at Eastern Michigan scoring over 14 hundred points.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– Fighting Illini guard Keaton Wagler is a 2025-26 NCAA Consensus All-American. Wagler has made history, earning a spot on the second team to become the first freshman in school history to garner Consensus All-America accolades. With this achievement, Wagler will join the Illinois Basketball Honored Jerseys program at State Farm Center. Wagler is the 17th Consensus All-American in Illini history, and the fourth in the last six seasons during the Brad Underwood era.

(Champaign–jc)  The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with Gameday Spirit Fan Store, will host the Fighting Illini spring merchandise sale on Saturday, April 11, in the Great West Hall of Gies Memorial Stadium. Shoppers will be able to purchase used University of Illinois team-issued gear in addition to new officially licensed Fighting Illini clothing and souvenirs at discount prices up to 80% off. The sale will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.  Free parking will be available at State Farm Center in the NW lot.

(Normal–jc)  –The Fighting Illini baseball team fell to Illinois State, 4-1, on Tuesday night at Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Ill., in a game that featured two weather delays and spanned nearly five-and-a-half hours.Sam Mommer got the start, throwing four shutout innings with two strikeouts and only two hits allowed. Ike Young fired a scoreless eighth with three strikeouts. Illinois opened the scoring in the top of the sixth, but the Redbirds responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame. The hosts added another tally in the seventh, which wrapped up the scoring on Tuesday night.

(Undated–jc)  –– Illinois Baseball secured its third straight Big Ten series win with a 6-0 road victory over Penn State on Sunday afternoon. Aidan Flinn and Reed Gannon combined for the three-hit shutout as the Fighting Illini improved to 6-6 in Big Ten play this season. Gannon earned the win, throwing five innings while only allowing one hit and striking out three. Flinn got the start and went four innings with three strikeouts. At the plate, J.R. Nelson went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Will Johannes posted a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored and an RBI.

St Malachy plays in the Elite 8 on Friday night around 8-15 at the Fieldcrest state finals in Wenona. Congratulations to the team on getting to the state tournament this year.

(Clinton–jc)  Congratulations to the Cissna Park 7th grade girls volleyball team. They finished 4th in the 7-1-A state tournament on Saturday in matches held at Clinton Junior High. The Wildcats won their Elite 8 match on Friday, but fell 25-19, 25-19 to Decatur Unity on Saturday. Hailey Kaeb was named as a sportsmanship award winner for Cissna Park. 

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The bracket is officially set for the 2026 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Illinois (24-8) is an at-large selection, earning the program's sixth consecutive bid under head coach Brad Underwood. Illinois is the No. 3 seed in the South Region. The Fighting Illini open play in the First Round on Thursday in Greenville, S.C, taking on No. 14 seed Penn , who won the Ivy League Tournament championship under first-year coach Fran McCaffery, the former Iowa head coach. Game time is approximately 8:25 p.m. WPXN will have the game live on Thursday night. Illinois is one of only 10 teams nationally – including one of just three from the Big Ten – to earn a bid in each of the last six.

(Champaign–jc)-For the third time under head coach Shauna Green, the Illinois women's basketball team has earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Fighting Illini have secured back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time since making four consecutive trips from 1996-2000. Illinois is going dancing for the 11th time in program history. Illinois will face  Colorado  on Saturday, March 21, at 8:30 p.m.  Green's Illini will be the youngest team across the 68-team NCAA Tournament field.  Also in the field of women's teams in the NCAA tournament are the Clemson Tigers. They are coached by former Crescent City Cissna Park player Shawn Poppie. One of his assistants is former PBL Basketball player Corey Fox. The Lady Tigers take on U-S-C on Saturday in the NCAA Tournament.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Fighting Illini Baseball junior Kyle Remington was named to the 2026 watch list for the College Baseball Foundation National Pitcher of the Year award, the organization announced on Wednesday. The 142 pitchers on the watch list represent 26 different conferences and reflect the top mound performers to this point during the 2026 season. Remington holds a 2.77 ERA across his 13.0 innings of work and four appearances thus far this season.

The Illini collected season-highs in runs and hits in the 13-run triumph, while the Orange and Blue pitching staff posted a season-most 13 strikeouts in the win.Four Illini recorded multi-hit days at the plate, led by AJ Putty, who tallied a 4-for-5 day at the plate while reaching five times, driving in three runs, and scoring three times.Nick Groves notched three hits and two RBI in the leadoff spot, extending his on-base streak to 27 games, while Will Johannes collected two hits, three runs, and two RBI. University of Illinois Men’s Basketball Coach Brad Underwood

Illinois is the No. 4 seed in the 2026 Big Ten Tournament. The 11th-ranked Fighting Illini will open play at the United Center in Chicago in the quarterfinal round on Friday at approximately 1:30 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network.

Illinois will face the winner of Thursday's third-round game between No. 5 seed Wisconsin and either No. 12 Washington or No. 13 USC.

Illinois owns a record of 24-7 overall, notching the program's most regular-season victories in the last 20 years. Illinois was Big Ten runner-up at 15-5, tying the second-most conference wins in school history. Head Coach Brad Underwood now owns the top three, and five of the top nine, winningest B1G seasons in program history. This marks the fifth time in the last seven years that Underwood has led the Illini to a top-4 Big Ten Tournament seed and bye into the quarterfinals.

URBANA, Ill. – No. 11 Illinois improved its winning streak to eight matches, taking down Washington, 4-0, on Sunday at Atkins Tennis Center.

During that eight-match stretch, the Illini have won the doubles point in each of those contests. That trend continued for the Orange and Blue as they grabbed the point with wins on Courts 2 and 3. William Mroz and Hayden Jones got the action started with a 6-2 win over Daniel Bien and Nikola Plavsic of Washington. Zach Viiala and Sasha Colleu would soon follow with a 6-3 victory to secure the 1-0 lead for the Illini.
