(Champaign–jc)  Hank Beatty has been named the 27th Academic All-American in Illinois football history. Beatty has a 3.87 GPA as a marketing major at the Gies College of Business and led the Illini with 1,123 all-purpose yards in 2025 to earn one of the highest honors in college football. Beatty, a native of Rochester, Illinois, was the only player in the nation to have a passing, rushing, receiving, and punt return touchdown during the 2025 season. 

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. –  The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association  released its first round of weekly national rankings on Tuesday . The Fighting Illini women debut as the national leaders for the third time in program history and extend their streak to three-straight years doing so. The men's team slots in at No. 9, just one short of last season when they began No. 8.

The women's squad has eight women with top-5 marks in the nation. Two of the marks are national leaders being Sophia Beckmon in the long jump  and Lucie Kienast in the pentathlon

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– Illinois guard Keaton Wagler  is Big Ten Player of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

This is the latest in several awards for the true-freshman point guard following his sensational, record-setting 46 points in Saturday's win at No. 4 Purdue.

Wagler has also been selected Player of the Week by the Naismith Trophy, Lute Olson Award, Field of 68, and NCAA March Madness. 

Wagler Highlights …

• Averaged 29.5 points, 6.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds in a pair of wins as Illinois extended its winning streak to nine straight games.

• Had one of the greatest scoring performances in college basketball history and the best by a freshman this season with 46 points on 13-17 FG, 9-11 3FG, 11-13 FT in the win at No. 4 Purdue:

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Fighting Illini rookie Cearah Parchment turned in a career day in Illinois' near comeback on the road at No. 24 Nebraska on Saturday. (Chicago–jm) – The Chicago Cubs on Wednesday acquired pitcher Edward Cabrera in a trade with the Marlins that sent top outfield prospect Owen Caissie and two other hitting prospects to Miami. The Cubs also dealt away infield prospects Cristian Hernandez and Edgardo De Leon in exchange for Cabrera, a popular trade target for multiple contenders who will improve a Chicago rotation that includes veterans Matthew Boyd, Jameson Taillon, Cade Horton and Shota Imanaga.

(Champaign-jm) – Illinois football has added Big Ten experience out of the portal to the 2026 offensive line. Jake Renfro will join Illinois next season, according to CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer. Renfro started all 12 games in 2024 for Wisconsin, battling injury in 2025. Renfro was a three-star prospect out of Providence Catholic, the son of Rick Renfro, who played offensive line for Illinois from 1982-84. He played two seasons at Cincinnati before an injury in 2022. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

(Champaign-jm) – East Carolina quarterback Katin Houser has committed to the Illini, first reported by Pete Thamel and then confirmed by the program on social media. After stints with the Pirates and Michigan State, Houser is returning to the Big Ten to try to fill the shoes of Luke Altmyer. Houser threw for 3,300 yards and 19 touchdowns this year, with a career total of 43 touchdowns in his four years of college football. A native of Anaheim, California, Houser comes to Illinois with one season of eligibility after helping take the Pirates to an 8-4 regular season.
