(Iowa–jc)  The Fighting Illini women's basketball team made its final nine attempts from 3-point range, but ultimately fell in a heartbreaker to number 9 Iowa on the road Thursday, 82-78. The Fighting Illini (19-9, 9-8) had four players score in double figures, led by Berry Wallace, who had 21 points. Cearah Parchment added her 12th double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jasmine Brown-Hagger helped out with 15+ points for the third time in the last four games and Aaliyah Guyton scored 11 points in her return to Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

(Champaign–jc)  Fighting Illini redshirt-sophomore Gretchen Dolan will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 after sustaining a torn meniscus in her right knee. The Buffalo, N.Y., native underwent surgery on Monday . Across the 18 games Dolan appeared in during the 2025-26 campaign, she averaged 12.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.8 assists  while playing 29.2 minutes per game.

 

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Three Illini will take part in the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine at Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium from Feb. 25-March 1. QB Luke Altmyer, OL J.C. Davis, and OLB Gabe Jacas will interview and work out in front of NFL scouts and front office representatives from all 32 teams at the event televised by NFL Network. Bret Bielema has sent 18 players to the NFL combine during his five seasons as Illinois head coach, the program's most ever over a five-year stretch.

(Champaign–jc)  –Fighting Illini freshman infielder AJ Putty was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week following a standout second week of the 2026 season, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. Across Illinois' four games from Feb. 17-22, Putty went 9-for-17 with five doubles, a grand slam, and 11 RBI while starting each contest at first base.

 

(Undated-jm) – Duke's win against Michigan has propelled the Blue Devils to a familiar perch: Number 1 in The Associated Press men's college basketball poll. The Blue Devils climbed two spots to top Monday's poll, marking the 148th appearance at No. 1 to add to what was already the record for any program. Arizona is #2, Michigan is #3, Iowa State is #4 and Houston is #5. Purdue is #8, Illinois is #10, Nebraska is #12 and Michigan State is #13.

(Chicago-jm) – The Chicago Bears endeavor for a new stadium took a meaningful step forward Thursday, opening the door for the storied franchise to leave Illinois to potentially build a new, domed stadium in Northwest Indiana. Indiana lawmakers unanimously approved a bill that would clear a path for the Bears to build a stadium in Hammond, Indiana.

(Champaign-jm) - Kaden Feagin will be moving to a new role in the Fighting Illini offense. Feagin, an Atwood native, will move from running back to tight end for the 2026 season. Coach Brett Bielema told reporters Thursday the idea was Feagins. Jordan Anderson, who was used in a hybrid tight end, running back, full back role in 2025 will switch back into the running back position in 2026. Sticking with Illinois football news, Chris Hurd is being promoted to special teams coordinator. Hurd has been the senior special teams assistant since 2024.

The Fighting Illini had six players score in double figures, led by Aaliyah Guyton, who had a career-high 22 points and six assists while going 6-for-6 from beyond the arc. Cearah Parchment posted her second straight double-double with 12 points and a career-most 15 rebounds, while Maddie Webber tacked on 15 points off the bench.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Former Illinois All-American Devon Witherspoon is a Super Bowl champion. Witherspoon served as a team captain and led the Seattle Seahawks to a 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California. 

Witherspoon was among the game's best players and the Seahawks' most impactful defender. His first-quarter sack set the tone and his fourth-quarter strip sack that was recovered for a touchdown added the exclamation point for one of the most dominant defensive performances in Super Bowl history. Witherspoon is one of the best players in Illinois football history. He was the 21st Consensus All-American in Illinois history, the Illini's first Thorpe Award finalist, and the highest drafted defensive back in Illinois history when he went No. 5 overall to Seattle in 2023.

(Chicago-jm) – The Chicago Bulls continued to overhaul their roster Wednesday, sending guard Coby White and Mike Conley to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Collin Sexton, Ousmane Dieng and three second round picks according to ESPN. The move comes after trading away Nikola Vucevic and Kevin Huerter Tuesday in exchange for Jaden Ivey and Anfernee Simons.

 

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Illinois football staff, led by head coach Bret Bielema, completed one of the top-rated classes in program history Wednesday with the addition of three signees: DB Caden Considine (Byron, Ill.), WR Jacob Harvey (Mt. Zion, Ill.), and WR Leslie Mosley Jr. (Belle Glade, Fla.).

The Illini’s class is ranked #22 in the nation by On3, #23 by 247Sports, and #24 by ESPN.  Illinois' three signees join 30 student-athletes that signed in December, including nine that received at least one four-star rating by a national recruiting service, the most in program history. The Illini's four-star signees included OLB Kayden Bennett (ESPN), DL Parker Crim (Rivals), DB Jacob Eberhart (Rivals), DB Nick Hankins Jr. (247/ESPN/Rivals), DB Jakwon Morris (ESPN), OL Kai Pritchard (247/ESPN), WR Nas Rankin (247/ESPN), OL Champ Smith (ESPN), and LB Cameron Thomas (ESPN).

(Champaign–jc)  The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday that Fighting Illini freshman Keaton Wagler is a Mid-Season Top 10 candidate for the 2026 Jerry West Award. Wagler is having one of the best seasons in program history midway through his freshman campaign. The Shawnee, Kansas, native is averaging 18.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists while shooting nearly 48% from the field, 44% from 3-point range, and 82% from the foul line. 

 

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.– Illini star freshman Keaton Wagler earned his latest national honor on Tuesday, as he was selected Oscar Robertson High-Major Player of the Month for January by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. For the month, Wagler averaged 21.5 points, 4.8 assists and 4.5 rebounds while leading the Illini to an 8-0 record.

(Champaign–jc)  –Illinois guard Keaton Wagler  is Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Wagler earns this latest honor following dominant performances in wins at No. 5 Nebraska and at home over Washington.

• Averaged 25 points, 6.5 assists, five rebounds, and two steals in a pair of victories as Illinois extended its Big Ten-leading win streak to 11 in a row.

• Made 50% from the field, 46.2% from three, 76.2% from the line, drew 22 fouls, and posted a 4.3 assist/turnover ratio.

• Game-high 28 points with five assists, five rebounds, and two steals in the win at No. 5 Nebraska. Scored 23 of his 28 in the second half in Lincoln on just six shot attempts to lead the Illini to the come-from-behind win and tied atop the Big Ten standings.

• Game-high 22 points with eight assists, five boards, and two steals in the home victory over Washington.
