(Urbana–jc)   Fighting Illini women's basketball head coach Shauna Green has announced the addition of Lety Vasconcelos (LET-ee VASS-con-SELL-os) to the program. Vasconcelos – a rising sophomore transfer from Baylor – has signed a Big Ten Tender of Financial Aid with the University of Illinois and is set to join the program beginning with the 2024-25 season. Vasconcelos is a 6-foot-7-inch center from Miguel Calmon, Bahia, Brazil. She appeared in 17 games off the bench for the Bears last season while averaging 1.1 points and 2.1 rebounds across 99 minutes of action as a true freshman. She was the lone freshman on Baylor's squad last season.

(Champaign–jc)  – University of Illinois Men;s Basketball  Coach Brad Underwood announced Wednesday that Kasparas Jakucionis (kas-PAR-es yah-koo-CHOH-nis) has signed a National Letter of Intent and Big Ten Tender of Financial Aid with the University of Illinois and will join the Fighting Illini program. Jakucionis is a 6-foot-6-inch, 200-pound guard from Vilnius, Lithuania. He joins the Fighting Illini after playing for European power FC Barcelona, primarily for Barca's second team and including limited action with the club's top team. Jakucionis has also represented Lithuania internationally, posted stellar performances at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament, and earned experience at the Nike Hoops Summit. During the 2023-24 season, Jakucionis played 19 games for Barcelona's second team, averaging 19.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.6 steals while shooting 48% overall, 38% from 3-point range, and 88% from the free throw line.

(Peoria–jc)  – It’s a 1pm first pitch on Friday afternoon for the Falcons of Gibson City Melvin Sibley’s baseball team in the final 4 of the I-H-S-A State baseball tournament. The Falcons go up against Altamont at Dozier Park in Peoria.

The other 1-A game features Ottawa Marquette and Jacksonville Routt high schools. 

Illinois baseball (34-19) was selected to the NCAA Tournament The 2024 Big Ten champion Illini will head to Lexington, Kentucky as the number 3 seed and will take on Number  2 seed Indiana State  on Friday at 6 p.m. Regional host and number 1 national seed Kentucky  will face Number  4 seed Western Michigan  on Friday at 11 a.m. The double-elimination regionals are hosted at 16 sites with the winners advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals at campus sites to be determined. The winner of the Lexington Regional is set to face the winner from the Corvallis Regional on June 7-9.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Illinois football team will wear three throwback helmets during the Memorial Stadium 100th Anniversary season, the program announced Tuesday. The helmet designs cover nearly 50 years of the Fighting Illini program from 1962-2012 and will be worn throughout the 2024 season at Memorial Stadium.  A helmet schedule for the Memorial Stadium 100th Anniversary season will be released at a later date. Illinois will sell a select number of game-worn throwback helmets. Information on how to purchase the helmets will be available in the coming weeks.

(California–jc(-The Fighting Illini men's golf team advanced to match play at the 2024 NCAA Golf Championship led by individual runner-up performances from Tyler Goecke and Max Herendeen. The Illini posted a team score of 1146 (-6), running away with first place by a 16-stroke margin after four rounds of stroke play,   Illinois secured the No. 1 seed in the eight-team bracket that will determine the team title. The Orange and Blue will match up Tuesday in the quarterfinals against No. 8-seeded Georgia Tech, whose Hiroshi Tai edged out Goecke, Herendeen, and four other competitors by just one stroke to claim the individual championship. Illinois' match play berth marks the program's ninth in the last 15 NCAA Championships since the current format was adopted in 2009, moving the Fighting Illini into a tie with Oklahoma State for the most by a single program. It is the second time the Illini have been the No. 1 seed (2015).

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Illinois men's track and field team finished the first day of the NCAA West Preliminaries on Wednesday as. Two field athletes punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. They are, senior Tyler Sudduth in the shot put and freshman Cody Johnston in the pole vault.

Sudduth qualified to his first NCAA Outdoor Championships throwing the eighth-best mark in the shot put today, 19.01m (62-4 1/2). Johnston will join him at the national meet after he placed third in the pole vault clearing 5.42m (17-9 1/4).

Illinois enters Year 3 under head coach Shauna Green and has compiled a 24-8 record at home over the last two seasons, including two upsets of AP Top-15 ranked teams: No. 12 Iowa (1/1/23) and No. 14 Indiana (2/19/24).In two years under Green, the Illinois women's basketball team has registered 41 wins, the first-ever postseason championship in program history (2024 WBIT), and back-to-back top-5 season attendances in State Farm Center.

(Urbana–jc)  Incoming Fighting Illini freshman Morez Johnson Jr. has been selected as one of 30 players set to compete at the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team training camp, beginning May 23 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. Johnson, a 6-foot-9-inch, 225-pound power forward, will compete among the best players in the nation in the graduating classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026, vying for a spot on the 12-member team that will represent USA Basketball at the 2024 Men’s U18 AmeriCup, June 3-9, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A native of Riverdale, Ill., Johnson was selected as the 2024 Illinois Mr. Basketball and Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year following his senior season at Thornton Township High School. As a senior, he averaged 20 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals while leading the Wildcats to a 25-9 record. Johnson signed with the Illinois program last November.
