(Champaign–jc – Illinois Basketball will face Ole Miss in a tune-up prior to this season going to Oxford, Mississippi for a charity exhibition game on Sunday, October 27 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission seating, with proceeds to benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of North Mississippi, which helps advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children involved in proceedings through youth courts. Illinois played in a charity exhibition game last year as well, defeating No. 1 Kansas in Champaign prior to the regular season. That game raised approximately $825,000 for the Maui Strong Fund aiding wildfire relief efforts. 

Illinois is the Big Ten's winningest team in conference play over the last five years, with Head Coach Brad Underwood directing the program to a 69-31 record. Illinois has won Big Ten titles in three of the last four seasons, hoisting the tournament trophy in 2021 and 2024 and regular season crown in 2022.

(Champaign–jc)  Illinois will face Duke at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025 in the SentinelOne Classic, marking the Fighting Illini's return to "The World's Most Famous Arena" for a third consecutive season. The matchup, which will be broadcast on FOX, features Big Ten and ACC programs that advanced to the Elite Eight and finished in the top-10 of the final Associated Press poll last season. Illinois is coming off one of its best seasons in school history. The Fighting Illini claimed its third Big Ten title in four years, reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 2005, and finished the season ranked No. 6 in the final AP poll. Illinois' 29-9 record in 2023-24 represents the third-most wins in program history and was the fifth straight 20-win season under head coach Brad Underwood. Duke finished 27-9 last season and ranked No. 9 in the final AP poll during John Scheyer's second year as head coach. The campaign was highlighted by a run to the program's 24th all-time Elite Eight appearance.

Amit Elor became the youngest American to win the gold in women’s freestyle wrestling at age 20.

Cole Hocker turned it on at the right moment to capture the gold in the men’s 1500m 

The USA leads the medal board with 86 including 24 gold, 31 silver and 31 bronze. China is second with 60 medals including 22 gold, 22 silver and 16 bronze.

Noah Lyles claimed the gold in the men's 100 meter sprint in one of the closest finals in Olympic history. It took a photo finish to determine he was 5 thousandths of a second faster than Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson. 

Scottie Scheffler won the gold in golf defeating Great Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood.

The women’s 4x100 meter medley relay won the gold earning the 8th gold, a world record in the Paris pool.

Katie Ledecky became the most decorated woman in swimming history when the U.S. won the silver in the 4x200 freestyle relay. 

Kate Douglass won a gold medal in the 200M Breaststroke. 

The U.S. women's basketball team held off Belgium to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.

Katie Ledecky wrote her spot in the Olympic history books winning the 1,500m free style earning her 8th career gold tying Jenny Thompson for most gold medals by a female swimmer and setting an Olympic record time. Her 12 Olympic medals are the most by an American woman in any sport.
