(Champaign–jc) –Illinois Women's basketball fifth-year guard Genesis Bryant has earned a place on the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Top-20 Preseason Watch List. Bryant was included on the award's preseason watch list for the first time in her career, while she is one of 20 players nationally and one of four Big Ten student-athletes. Bryant was an All-Big Ten honorable mention honoree last year and averaged over 14 points per game. Bryant was named to the WBIT all-tournament team last year for the Illini.

(Champaign–jc) The Illinois football team is ranked #24 in this week's AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll ahead of its return home to Memorial Stadium. #24 Illinois hosts Minnesota on Saturday for Dads Day and Military Appreciation Day. Illinois (6-2, 3-2 Big Ten) is off to a 6-2 start including a 5-0 record at Memorial Stadium. The Fighting Illini have been ranked for seven consecutive weeks, the program's most AP Poll appearances since the 2001 Big Ten championship team was ranked for 10 weeks. Illinois is the only Big Ten team with three AP Top 25 wins this season. The Illini's only two losses have come against top-10 teams — #1 Oregon and #9 Penn State, which are both inside the top three in this week's AP poll. Saturday's game against Minnesota (5-3, 3-2 Big Ten) will kick off at 11 a.m. CT on FS1.
(Champaign–jc) –Illinois Women's basketball fifth-year guard Makira Cook was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award preseason watch list for the second consecutive season. The Nancy Lieberman Award honors the top point guard in the country, with Cook earning one of 20 spots on the preseason watch list. Cook is the only Illinois player ever to be named to the Lieberman Award watch list. Cook was named an All-Big Ten Second Team honoree following the 2023-24 season, during which she led the Fighting Illini in scoring with 16.4 points per game.
(Champaign–jc) –Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer was one of 35 quarterbacks named to the Davey O'Brien Award Class of 2024. Altmyer has led Illinois to a 6-2 record and a top-25 national ranking for seven consecutive weeks. In three top-25 victories this season, Altmyer has totaled 560 yards of offense, a 65.7% completion percentage (46/70), six touchdowns (5 passing, 1 rushing), and zero interceptions. His four-touchdown performance at Nebraska is still the only time this season a QB has thrown for four touchdowns in a top-25 road win.Altmyer has been one of the most efficient passers in the nation, leading the Big Ten and ranking third in the nation in touchdown/interception ratio at 15/3. Altmyer also ranks among the nation's best in touchdown passes (24th, 15) and passing efficiency rating (35th, 137.7). Altmyer and the #24-ranked Illini are back at Memorial Stadium on Saturday against Minnesota. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on FS1.
(Champaign–jc) Illinois defensive back Xavier Scott has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and the Jim Thorpe Association announced Tuesday. Scott is one of 15 players in the running for the award honoring the nation's best defensive back.
Scott has been one of the nation's best throughout the season, helping Illinois to a 6-2 record and AP Top 25 ranking for seven straight weeks. He is tied for third in the Big Ten in interceptions (3), while also totaling 29 tackles, 2.0 TFLs, 1.0 sacks, two pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
(Champaign–jc) – On Friday, Nov. 22, the Illinois women's basketball team will host Oregon State for a 7 p.m. CT game in State Farm Center. Fighting Illini volleyball will host Rutgers at 4 p.m. in Huff Hall the same afternoon. Illinois leads the all-time series against Oregon State, 1-0, earning a 65-50 win over the Beavers during the 1996-97 campaign.
